OPW Papal Visit 2018

It’s fair to say that at Emotion Media we love a challenge, and when it came to finding a way to communicate with the 6,000 volunteers working at the various events during the Papal Visit in 2018, we were faced with several.

With a vast amount of information to be imparted including itinerary, maps, site layout, walking routes, travel and traffic info, contact numbers and location of services like medical, transport, an app was an obvious solution. But given that this was a one-off event, the budget simply couldn’t be justified. Paper booklets were briefly considered but aside from the environmental impact were dismissed as they wouldn’t allow for last minute changes.

After a bit of brainstorming we same up with the idea of an interactive PDF.

More cost effective than an app, it would also eliminate waste and could be updated at any time. This PDF was sent to volunteers who could upload it to their phones so no WIFI access was necessary.

Content Information Screens

In addition to this we also designed and delivered content for information screens for the various stakeholders, volunteers and visitors involved in the events as well as training the OPW staff on how to change the content.

The information screens were placed in the Printworks in Dublin Castle for the press office and at Phoenix Park for visitors and volunteers.
